Barkas is continuing to see his name linked with Italian clubs. In 2018, the 25-year-old began to attract attention from Italy, and Sky Sports Italia has recently stated that AS Roma are eager to sign the goalkeeper.

Initially, Roma wanted to sign Pau Lopez from Real Betis as a replacement for the outgoing Robin Olsen, but their offer of 20 million euros was rejected. According to the Italian media, the Giallorossi have now switched their attentions to Salvatore Sirigu of FC Torino and AEK’s Vasilis Barkas.

AEK are prepared to engage in negotiations with Roma concerning Barkas, but the Kitrinomavri will only consider bids exceeding seven million. It’s worth remembering that Atromitos still retain a 15% resale rate for Barkas.

In the 2018/2019 season, Barkas made 41 appearances across all competitions, conceding 34 goals and and tallying 22 clean sheets. Transfermarkt rates his value at 2.5 million and he’s under contract at AEK until 2022.

If Barkas leaves, Panagiotis Tsintotas is expected to become the new AEK number one goalkeeper, with the newly signed Giorgos Athanasiadis forming his back-up.

Rumours have also suggested that Michalis Bakakis, Konstantinos Galanopoulos, Petros Mantalos and Marko Livaja could possibly leave AEK this summer.

Last year, Mantalos was reportedly on the wishlist of West Bromwich Albion, and although a disappointing season has cooled interest in the 27-year-old, English clubs are still supposedly chasing the attacking midfielder. For their part, AEK would enter negotiations, but the offer would have to be substantial for them to sell one of their key players. Mantalos played in 40 games for AEK during the 2018/2019 season, contributing with nine goals and 10 assists despite being well below his best.

Talented Croatian forward Marko Livaja wasn’t as effective in comparison to the triumphant 2017/2018 season, but the 25-year-old still managed to register 12 goals and eight assists in 38 matches. Foreign clubs are interested in signing Livaja, and in order to secure the signature of the attacker, they would have to cough up at least six million. AEK will not listen to any offers cheaper than that amount.

AEK would sell right-back Michalis Bakakis for two million and gifted young midfielder Konstantinos Galanopoulos for a slightly higher fee. Nevertheless, at this moment in time, it’s highly likely that the pair will remain at the Enosis for the 2019/2020 campaign.
