Panathinaikos has made their third and final signing of the day with Christopher Samba. The 32-year old central defender signed a 1-year contract capping off Panathinaikos’ final move for this summer.
Christopher Samba is a top-class defender, with a strong physique, known for his overpowering strength and abilities in the air. Samba made his name known with Blackburn during his 5-year stay with the club (2007-2012). He made 161 appearances and scored 16 goals, showing his abilities not only on the defensive end but also in front of the opposing goal. He then had short stays at Anzi and QPR before signing with Dinamo Moscow (in 2013) for three seasons, where he made 51 appearances and scored 8 goals. He was released from Dinamo Moscow as a free-agent at the end of this season. According to sportfm.gr, Samba had better offers from West Brom and Espanyol but Andrea Stramaccioni convinced the player to join Panathinaikos. Additionally, Samba has 26 caps for his country, Congo, and is the team’s captain.
The 32-year old signed a 1-year contract with Panathinaikos and will make a powerful central defensive duo with Moledo.
Victora Klonaridis and Mehdi Abeid will continue their careers in France. Klonaridis will play for second division side, Lans, while Abeid will play at newly promoted Ligue 1 side Dijon. On the other hand, Chouchoumis, Marinakis, and Tavlaridis will remain at Panathinaikos after the players were rumored with moves to other teams.
