After a one year stay at Panathinaikos, Ioannis Bourousis will be elsewhere next season after terminating his contract with the club. The decision was a mutual one between the two sides and talks between Bourousis and Panathinaikos president Dimitris Giannakopoulos were done in a friendly matter.
Bourousis was acquired last season by the Trifylli from Baskonia after being named the best center in the 2016 Euroleague. This season he played a vital role in helping Panathinaikos to not only the Greek double, but also a spot in the Euroleague playoffs.
In 33 Euroleague games he averaged 7.8 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1 apg, while averaging 10.6 ppg, 5.6 rpg, and 1.8 apg in the Greek Basket League.
After the announcement Bourousis thanked the Giannakopoulos family for the trust they put in him. He mentioned that when he first came to the club he promised that he would help bring Panathinaikos back to the top of Greek basketball and he did just that.
The 33-year old center, who is now a free agent, did not mention anything as to where will be the next stop in his career.
