Panathinaikos hosted AEK in game 1 of the Greek Basket League Playoff semi-final series at the OAKA Nick Galis Indoor Hall. After a first quarter that saw Panathinaikos take a double digit lead, a strong second quarter from AEK allowed the visitors to go into halftime ahead with a surprising 35-39 scoreline.

After the restart, it was the Nick Calathes show (scored 19 pts in the second half) with the Greek guard leading Panathinaikos back to a double digit advantage at 60-50 at the end of the third quarter. In the final 10 minutes, AEK never really threatened the hosts, with Panathinaikos’ lead reaching up to 14 points as they marched on to an 80-70 victory.

Panathinaikos’ best player on the night, Nick Calathes, set a new scoring career high with 23 points (5 assists) and scored his team’s only three pointer of the game (Panathinaikos went 1/15 from behind the arch). Singleton and James played their role in Panathinaikos’ victory, scoring 14  and 12 points, respectively.

For the visitors, who only had a strong presence in the second quarter, Mavroeidis led the Enosis with 18 points while Dixon and Sakota followed with 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Game two will take place on Sunday with AEK playing host to Panathinaikos at the OAKA Nick Galis Indoor Hall in Athens.
