Calathes tied for third most Basket League MVP honors
Nick Calathes received his third career Basket League MVP honor and now sits tied for third for most Basket League MVP awards.
On Tuesday, Nick Calathes was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2018/2019 Basket League season, with the Panathinaikos star winning the award for the third consecutive year and for a third time in his career.
Calathes, 30, steered Panathinaikos to the Greek double, as the Athenians defeated PAOK in the final of the Cup and swept Promitheas in the decisive playoff series of the Basket League.
In the regular season, Calathes made 21 appearances for Panathinaikos, registering an average of 8.57 points, 7.19 assists and 3.33 rebounds. He then averaged an impressive 14 points, 11.67 assists and 3.83 rebounds in six Basket League playoff games, as Panathinaikos stormed to the crown without losing a single match in the post-season.
His third career MVP honor moves him into third, tied with Olympiacos’ Vassilis Spanoulis, for most Basket League MVP awards. Ahead of Calathes and Spanoulis are the legendary Nick Galis with five MVP awards (all coming in successive seasons from (1987-1992) while Panathinaikos great, Dimitris Diamantidis, sits atop the list with six MVP titles.
