Captain Malezas helps PAOK to smash and grab win over Platanias
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 15
|Platanias||0 - 1||PAOK|
PAOK skipper Stelios Malezas netted the only goal of the game to lead the Salonica club to a narrow away 1-0 victory over struggling Platanias in a match low on quality in Chania.
Malezas, who last found the net in a Panionios shirt back in 2014, bundled the ball home 11 minutes into the second half to seal all three points for an out-of-sorts PAOK team, who moved level on 31 points with leaders AEK but second on goal difference.
Platanias were unlucky to come away with nothing from a match in which they played impressively, with the Cretan club having also had a legitimate goal wrongly chalked off for offside.
That incident came after just two minutes when the home side’s Polish striker Piotr Grzelczak headed past Alexandros Paschalakis.
PAOK coach Razvan Lucescu looked both a jubilant and relieved man at the final whistle with his team taking three vital points from a match in which his players were below-par once again away from home.
Although PAOK dominated possession - having 70% of the ball at one point - chances were few and far between with both goalkeepers taking on the role of spectators for long spells.
