Omonoia hosted AEK Larnaca at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia. The hosts came out determined and the early possession led to a Matt Derbyshire headed effort from close range that missed the net. On the other end, Florian Taulemesse took a shot that deflected, but Tomas Mejias adjusted to it and made the save. Jordi Gomez returned fire with a shot that also ricocheted, but Tono Ramirez was up to the task. Igor Silva then had a go that was kicked aside by Mejias and the Omonoia goalkeeper came up large again as he robbed Truyols from close range on a well placed free kick. AEK carried the play in the latter stages of the first half, but there was no score at halftime.

Omonoia regrouped at the half and rediscovered the energy they had at the start of the match. Gomez had a shot from distance, but it was a routine save for Ramirez while Cris Montes’s strike from a bit closer was also easy for Ramirez.

It was another harmless looking low shot that ended up being the difference in the match as Fanos Katelaris fired a low strike that wasn’t the most powerful effort, but it snuck inside the near post before Ramirez could get to it, and the 70th minute goal finally broke the ice.

This seemed to awaken the visitors, but all they could manage was a weak effort from Onisiforos Roushias that Mejias had no problem with. In stoppage time, David Catala was looking for Vincent Laban, but Ioannis Kousoulos slid out to intercept the pass and scuff out the threat.

In the end, Omonoia managed to hang on for a very important 1:0 win at home to AEK Larnaca to remain in 7th. It was three valuable points to move closer to sixth spot and the playoffs, which is currently held by AEK who have a game in hand on the rest of the league.
