In the last matchday of 2017, APOEL put an end to Anorthosis’ undefeated run and AEK claimed the winter championship despite playing to a draw with AEL. Apollon, Omonoia, Doxa and Olympiakos finished the year with wins, while Aris and Alki’s fixture finished all square.

Olympiakos recorded a narrow 3-2 home win over last placed Ethnikos. Sotiriou opened the scoring in the 5th minute for the hosts but Pincelli quickly equalised from spot in the 13 minute. Torres re-gave Olympiakos the lead eight minutes after the restart, before Pincelli struck again to bring the scores all square five minutes before the end. However, the hosts had the last laugh as Samaras gave the Nicosia team all three points in stoppage time, putting them four points clear of the relegation zone.

Doxa escaped from the Ammochostos stadium with a 0-1 over Nea Salamina. Zatl scored the buzzer beater goal in the final minute of stoppage time to keep Doxa in the 6th place heading into 2018. Salamina’s disastrous year continues as they remain in 12th.

Aris and Alki said goodbye to 2017 with a goalless draw in Limassol. Aris, who are facing relegation, are 13th, four points deep into the drop zone, while Alki are in 9th spot, a comfortable eight points clear of relegation.

Apollon finished a stellar year with an emphatic 0-6 away win over Ermis. Martinez, Zelaya (twice), and Jakolic sent the Cypriot Cup holders into halftime with a four goal lead in a half that was clearly dominated by the visitors. An own goal from Psaltis in the 85th minute gave Apollon the 0-5 lead before Zelaya completed the hat-trick to give Apollon the impressive win. The Limassol side are now 3rd, three points behind leaders AEK, but continue to have three games in hand going into the new year. Ermis are three points clear of relegation, but will need to improve if they want to stay out of trouble in 2018.

Omonoia returned to winning ways with a 3:0 victory over Pafos at the GSP Stadium. Two goals from Derbyshire in the first half and another from Christofi in the second half, gave the Prasinoi their first win under Ivailo Petev’s guidance. Omonoia are still out of the playoff zone in 7th, chasing Doxa who are three points ahead, while Pafos are three points behind in the 8th place.
