The new football season started in Cyprus with four games while the remaining three fixtures were postponed due to European duties for APOEL, AEK and Apollon.

Alki Oroklinis returned to the 1st Division with a 0-1 win on the road against Ethnikos Achnas. Tigroudja scored the only goal of the match while the visitors wasted many scoring chances to increase the scoreline. It is three important points for Alki, who will fight to avoid relegation, while Ethnikos Achnas will need much improvement if they are to mimic the club’s performance from last season.

AEL and Aris fought in a tough match with the hosts, AEL, prevailing with 1-0 scoreline thanks to a stoppage time winner from Sassi. In an energetic match that saw both teams waste chances, AEL was overall the better side and walked away with the three points. There was late drama as Aris were awarded a penalty in the 85th minute but failed to convert the chance, before Sassi proved to be the hero in stoppage time for the hosts.

Nea Salamina and Anorthosis played to a 1-1 draw in the derby of Famagusta. Anorthosis were the better side in the first half, with Ruben Rayos finding the back of the net with a free kick in the 15th minute. The hosts improved their display after the restart and found the equalizer with Damahou 17 minutes before the end.

Olympiakos Nicosia returned to the 1st Division with a goalles draw against Doxa at the Makareio Stadium.
