Cyprus’ mixed World Cup qualifying campaign ended on a low note after they were put to the sword 4-0 by Group H winners Belgium on Tuesday in Brussels.
Two goals from Chelsea star Eden Hazard and further strikes from his brother Thorgan Hazard and an 11th goal in eight matches for Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku capped a fine display from the home side.
It was always going to be tough for Ran Ben Simon’s side against the mighty Belgians, who have scored 44 goals in qualifying - equaling a record set by Germany.
The Cypriots had their moments but after winning three and drawing 1 out of their 10 matches, they ended the campaign down in fifth place, just above whipping boys Gibraltar.
