Donis takes leading role in shock Stuttgart win at Bayern
Greek forward Anastasios Donis starred in Stuttgart’s surprise 4:1 victory at Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, contributing with a wonderful assist and stunning goal.
The 21-year old forward has struggled during his first season in Germany, often receiving injuries and not being given much playing time on the pitch. Nevertheless, Donis came to life against Bayern Munich on Saturday, firing Stuttgart to victory with a superb performance.
After five minutes of play, Donis picked up the ball, blitzed past the Bayern defence with blistering speed, squared for Daniel Ginczek and the latter gratefully stroked the ball into the gaping net at point blank range.
However, the Greek wasn’t finished there. 37 minutes later, Donis pinched possession near the centre circle, beat the entire Bayern team with an electrifying turn of pace and showed composure to outwit opposing goalkeeper Sven Ulreich. Donis remained on the pitch for 88 minutes and Stuttgart went on to claim a shock 4:1 victory in Munich.
Overall, Donis participated in 18 Bundesliga matches this season, scoring two goals. Stuttgart finished in seventh place of the table with 51 points, while Bayern Munich won the league at a canter.
