Douvalidis impresses on day four in Doha
In a day of mixed results for Greek athletes at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Qatar, Konstantinos Douvalidis advanced to the semifinals of the men’s 110 metres hurdles.
First, Antigoni Drisbioti finished in 22nd place out of 45 competitors in the women’s 20 km walk. She completed the race just before 2:00 AM, with her time being 1:38:56.
Rafailia Spanoudaki made her World Championships debut, running in the qualifying heats of the women’s 200 metres. She finished 34th overall (out of 48 participants), which was not enough to reach the semifinals as only 24 athletes advanced. Her time was 23.48 seconds.
Also failing to reach the semifinals in her event was Irini Vasiliou. Vasiliou finished 36th overall in the women’s 400 metres, with a time of 52.31 seconds.
In the men’s 110 metres hurdles, Greece’s Konstantinos Douvalidis finished 10th in qualifying. Douvalidis posted a season-best time of 13.43 seconds, and will now compete in the semifinals on Wednesday.
Qualifying of the men’s hammer throw will be the only event on day five featuring Greek athletes. Michail Anastasakis and 19-year-old Christos Frantzeskakis will be hoping to reach the final there.
