European Indoor Championships to Begin Tomorrow
Nine Greek athletes will compete on Day 1 at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow.
In the afternoon session, six Greeks will compete. Reigning European outdoor champions Paraskevi Papachristou and Miltiadis Tentoglou will take part in the qualifying rounds of the women’s triple jump and men’s long jump respectively. Andreas Dimitrakis will participate in the qualifying of the men’s 1500 metres and Konstantinos Baniotis will be looking to make his fourth career European Indoor Championships final as he competes in the men’s high jump qualifying.
Irini Vasiliou will be running in the qualifying of the women’s 400 metres, and Nicholas Scarvelis will be in the qualifying of the men’s shot put. Both athletes will hope to be competing in the evening session as well, as that is when the semifinals of the women’s 400 metres and final of the men’s shot put will be held.
Should those two advance to compete in the evening session, they will be joined by three other Greek athletes. Konstantinos Filippidis and Emmanouil Karalis will be jumping in the qualifying of the men’s pole vault, and Tatiana Gusin will be in the qualifying of the women’s high jump. Both qualifying competitions will take place in the evening session.
