Ferreira to become next PAOK head coach
In the coming hours, Abel Ferreira is set to become the new PAOK head coach, taking the place of the departed Razvan Lucescu.
On Friday, Lucescu suddenly left his post as PAOK boss, activating a clause in his contract which allowed him to hand in his resignation. Lucescu abandoned PAOK in favour of Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
PAOK appear to have chosen Abel Ferreira as his replacement. This afternoon, Sport FM reported that PAOK have paid two million euros in order to cancel Ferreira’s current contract at SC Braga, where he has been coaching since April 2017. Ferreira, 40, will travel to Thessaloniki shortly to sign the paperwork before he joins the team in the Netherlands.
Ferreira will reportedly earn two million per year with PAOK.
Since Ferreira ended his playing career in 2011, he has coached in the youth systems of Sporting Lisbon and Braga, becoming the head coach of the latter’s first team in 2017. Overall, the Portuguese manager has overseen 102 matches with SC Braga, gaining a points-per-game average of 1.96.
LUCESCU OFFICIALLY JOINS AL-HILAL
As expected, former PAOK head coach Razvan Lucescu has officially joined Al-Hilal, penning a two-year contract with the Arabian club.
Al-Hilal announced his arrival on their social networking platforms:
After joining PAOK in 2017, Lucescu earned three trophies with the Dikefalos tou Vorra, winning the Greek Cup twice and the 2018/2019 Super League. This season, PAOK became only the second Hellenic club in history to win the domestic championship undefeated, claiming 26 victories and four draws in 30 matches.
