Fiesta Finito...Planning for New Season Begins

A couple of days ago, Olympiacos celebrated their 44th league title and seventh straight in the Greek Superleague. However, the club will now forget the “Fiesta” and start making plans for next season, as the new season kicks off in just over two months.

The first priority at Olympiacos is the head coach position for the new season. Rémi Garde, who seemed to be the clear favorite a few days ago, looks like he will not sign on with Olympiacos. Sources mention that other coaches have been proposed to the Piraeus club including Mauricio Pellegrino (Alaves), Quique Setién (Las Palmas), and Fran Escribá of Villareal.

There is also a possibility that Takis Lemonis could remain at the club. Things favoring Lemonis are that he knows his team and the club very well and managed to improve the club’s performance during the last couple of months. The head officials of Olympiacos are pleased with the work Lemonis has done and his stay in Piraeus would not be a shocking decision based on recent reports.

As for the roster clean up, Chori Domínguez, Esteban Cambiasso, and Óscar Cardozo all seem to be on their way out while the future of Manuel da Costa, Alberto de la Bella, Bruno Vianna, and Tarik Elyounoussi are still not clear. As for the players on loan at Olympiacos (Nicola Leali, Aly Cissokho, Juan Paredes), all of them will return to their parent teams.

Many players are out on loan and will be returning to Piraeus at the conclusion of this football season. The likes of Kasami, Gianniotis, Ben, Gianniotas, Pardo, and Zdjelar are expected to join the team for the first stage of pre-season training in Austria.

Siovas, Goutas, Tsimikas, Karamanos, Siopis, and Omar Elabdellaoui will likely continue with their current teams, on a loan renewal or activation of their buy out clause.

It is highly probable that Laifis will return to the club after a successful loan spell at Standard Liege in order to strengthen the team’s defense.

Finally, in the next days, Olympiacos’ new signings will be officially announced including Risvanis from Panionios, Koutris from PAS Giannina and Pape Abou Cissé from Ajaccio.
