Football League to proceed without playoffs and playouts
The upcoming Football League campaign will not include playoffs or playouts after the conclusion of the regular season.
On Wednesday, the 14 clubs of the 2019/20 Football League met for the first time to discuss the newly formed Greek third tier. In the meeting, it was decided that the upcoming Football League season will not include playoffs or playouts at the conclusion of the regular season.
As a result, the new season will include 26 matchdays where each club will play the others in home and away matches. The top two teams at the end of the season will be promoted to the Super League 2 (second division) while the bottom four teams will be relegated to the Gamma Ethniki, the new Greek fourth tier.
These decisions will be presented to the Hellenic Football Federation and they will make the final decision regarding the league’s format and the promotion/relegation positions.
The league is expected to kickoff on September 26th.
