Fortounis boasts highest value among Super League players
Transfermarkt released a list of the most valuable players in the Super League, with Olympiacos star Kostas Fortounis topping the rankings.
This season, Fortounis has been in superb form with Olympiacos, scoring 17 goals and registering 16 assists in 43 matches across all competitions. According to reports, teams from England, Germany and Turkey have all expressed interest in Fortounis, but Olympiacos are close to extending the attacking midfielder’s contract through to 2023. His current deal with the Erythrolefki is due to expire next summer.
Fortounis is the only Super League player to have a market value exceeding 10 million euros.
PAOK pair Sergio Oliveira (nine million) and Leo Jaba (eight million) are just behind. Arriving on loan from FC Porto in January, 26-year-old Oliveira offered a calming presence in midfield, playing in a fluid manner and popping up with three goals. Reports in the media have stated that he will return to Porto for the 2019/2020 season. Gifted Brazilian winger Leo Jaba is capable of providing the attacking spark, and despite his disciplinary problems, he is undoubtedly one of the most talented players in the Super League.
Mohamed Camara (eight million), Pape Abou Cisse (six million) and Leonardo Koutris (six million) of Olympiacos are next in line. All three enjoyed solid seasons in Piraeus, in turn attracting the attentions of several European clubs with Benfica known to be chasing Greek international left-back Koutris. Camara, who joined from AC Ajaccio in July 2018, caught the eye with his solid showings in the centre of midfield.
Super League top scorer (19 goals) Efthymis Koulouris is valued at five million. After transferring to PAOK in the winter, Icelandic centre-back Sverrir Ingi Ingason barely got a look in, but he’s rated at five million alongside Koulouris and Olympiacos right-back Omar Elabdellaoui. Gifted Olympiacos winger Daniel Podence is in 10th position at 4.5 million.
