A dominant fourth quarter put Panathinaikos back on track in the EuroLeague, effectively ending the club’s three-game losing streak…
Panathinaikos reached the win column for the first time in four weeks on Friday night as the Trifylli rebounded from a slow start to secure a 90-79 road win over Unicaja Malaga.
KC Rivers was immense as he led Panathinaikos with 24 points, while teammate Lukas Lekavicius was somewhat of a close for the Greek Champions as he did most of his damage in the fourth quarter.
Nikos Calathes again notched a double-double with 12 points and 11 assists to fuel Panathinaikos offense, which found their legs in the fourth quarter with a dominant 32-19 run in the final frame.
Nemanja Nedovic notched 19 points to lead Malaga scorers, though the Spanish side faded in the second half as Panathinaikos’ steeled defense limited Malaga to just 35 points in the entire second half.
Panathinaikos overcame adversity to snap their three-game losing streak as Panathinaikos’ first half haul of just 32 points made it seem likely that the Trifylli would drop their fourth straight contest.
The win keeps Panathinaikos in the chase for home court for the playoffs as the Athens giants sit just one game behind Real Madrid for the fourth and final home berth – though the Spanish giants do hold the tie-breaker between the two clubs.
Panathinaikos will face an important week in the EuroLeague with a two-game slate that sees Xavi Pascual take on both Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade and Maccabi Fox Tel Aviv.
