Giannina star Conde continues to impress
Spanish forward Pedro Conde has enjoyed a flying start to 2018, scoring nine goals in as many matches to help PAS Giannina rise to eighth spot of the Super League table.
Playing in his second season with PAS Giannina, the 29-year old Spaniard has gradually become one of the Super League’s best goalscorers, now boasting 11 markers in the 2017/2018 campaign. PAS don’t always play an attacking style of game, but with Conde leading the line, they know that any opportunity could result in a goal. Since the new year began, Conde has been in unstoppable form, scoring nine goals in nine PAS matches in all competitions.
Overall, taking into account all tournaments, Conde has 17 goals in 22 appearances during the current season. Five of them have come in the past three fixtures. Conde found the net against PAOK in a 1:3 defeat in Ioannina, before striking with two wonderful free-kicks in PAS’ dramatic Greek Cup loss to AEL. On Saturday, Conde netted two goals for the second consecutive match, single-handedly downing struggling Athenian giants Panathinaikos at home. In PAS’ previous eight matches, Conde has only failed to score against Panionios and AEK Athens on the road.
Conde made an immediate impact in Ioannina after signing for PAS in the 2016/2017 season, scoring 13 Super League goals in that campaign and now owning 11 this year. 24 goals in just 42 league matches is an eye-catching statistic, something which has provoked rumours that Greece’s bigger clubs are thinking of making a move for the Spaniard when the season ends.
Given Conde’s superb scoring ability, PAS Giannina owner Giorgos Christovasilis came out and revealed that the forward does have a release clause in his contract. “Conde, along with some other players, has a release clause in his contract which means that any club can sign him,” stated Christovasilis.
“Every player who performs excellently during one particular season is sure to ask for a move away.”
According to sport24.gr, Conde’s release cause is only 900,000 euros. If any club comes along offering PAS that exact amount of money, they have no other option than to let their leading light go. If Conde keeps on hitting the back of the net with such regularity, PAS will struggle to keep their star forward in Ioannina. Conde’s contract runs out in 2019.
