Giannis named 2019 NBA MVP

The Greek Freak has done it. Giannis Antetokounmpo’s life-long dream of becoming the NBA’s Most Valuable Player came true on Monday evening in California.
Giannis beat out James Harden of the Houston Rockets and Paul George of the Oklahoma City Thunder to claim the 2019 NBA Most Valuable Player award.
Giannis finished the regular season averaging a double-double with 27.7 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game. In the postseason, Giannis averaged 25.5 points and 12.3 rebounds per game as he led the Bucks to the Eastern Conference Finals where they lost out to the eventual champions Toronto Raptors.
Upon winning the award, he gave an emotional and powerful speech thanking God, his family, his teammates, the coaching staff, and all those that have believed in him throughout his career.
At just 24 years old, Antetokounmpo becomes the third-youngest player to win the MVP over the past 40 seasons, behind Derrick Rose and LeBron James.
The Greece native is the second European and just the fifth player born outside of the United States to be named MVP following Hakeem Olajuwon (1994 MVP, born in Nigeria), Tim Duncan (2002, 2003 MVP, born in US Virgin Islands), Steve Nash (2005, 2006 MVP, born in Canada), and Dirk Nowitzki (2007 MVP, born in Germany) .
He also just the second Bucks player to be named MVP behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Giannis is expected to compete with Greece in the upcoming FIBA World Cup.
