Gillet arrives in Greece for Olympiacos
Guillaume Gillet arrived in Greece on Monday to sign with Greek champions, Olympiacos.
One of Olympiacos’ main summer signing cases, Guillaume Gillet, will likely have a happy ending. The 33-year old defensive midfielder arrived in Greece on Monday to undergo the necessary medical tests and sign with the Erythrolefki. Gillet is a personal request of coach Besnik Hasi as he worked with the player at Anderlecht and will use his experience and abilities to strengthen the Olympiacos midfield.
The deal between Nantes and Olympiacos is rumored to be €1 million and Gillet will sign a 2-year contract with the Erythrolefki (others say 2+1 year). Despite his age, Gillet played in all 38 matches in last year’s French Ligue 1 and is coming off of an impressive 10 consecutive season streak with over 35 appearances in all competitions each year.
Gillet will be available to help Olympiacos qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stages when they face Croatian champions Rijeka in the playoff round of qualifying. The Belgian midfielder, who can also play as a wing back, will be Olympiacos’ 11th addition of the summer.
