These two teams also met in the final of the 2011 World Championships in China, which Greece won 9-8.
This time around, Greece got off to an ideal start, leading 4-1 after the first period. By halftime, the Greeks maintained a 6-3 lead, which would later be 10-7 after the third period of play. In the end, the Greeks prevailed 12-8.

Greece will have a tough task against them on Monday, when they meet the United States in the quarterfinals. The Americans comfortably defeated the Greeks in a series of friendlies leading up to the World Championships. The Americans also scored a 15-7 win over the Greeks in 2016 Olympic qualifying, and two wins at the 2013 World Championships, including one on penalties in the fifth place game.
