Greece Emerges as Euro 2028 Co-Host Contender
News has emerged that Greece is part of a group of four countries that are looking at hosting Euro 2028 - Europe’s showpiece football tournament.
This should come as no surprise as the same four countries have previously pondered the possibility of hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup. This was only the first meeting for hosting Euro 2028 so it is still very early doors but the desire to host a major tournament is definitely there.
This ‘Plan B’ option should come as welcome news after Deputy Minister of Sport, George Vasiliadis, met with his Balkan counterparts in Belgrade last week. The World Cup in 2030 is still undoubtedly the first option, however, the intent is now serious as thought has been put into a ‘Plan B’.
It is believed a joint application with a group of other similarly keen neighbouring countries would be Greece’s best path at hosting a major football tournament for the first time.
