Greeks Abroad Review: Mitroglou can’t stop scoring in France
AGONAsport’s Shaun Nicolaides rounds up the performances of Greeks playing in other leagues in this week’s Greeks Abroad Review.
Once again, the star of the show was hitman Kostas Mitroglou, who continued his fine form with yet another crucial goal for Marseille in Ligue 1. However, he wasn’t the only one to hit the jackpot. Andreas Tatos registered a marker in Turkey’s second division, while Georgios Katsidis struck gold with Olympia Prague in the Czech Republic.
Elsewhere, Nikolaos Karelis earned an assist for Genk, Stefanos Kapino made his debut in English football and Andreas Samaris continues to struggle with Benfica.

Kostas Mitroglou (Marseille/Ligue 1): Scored two goals in Marseille’s large 5:1 triumph over Lille in Ligue 1, played the entire 90 minutes.
Andreas Samaris (Benfica/Portuguese Premiera Liga): As usual, the Greek midfielder only emerged as a substitute deep in stoppage time. Benfica defeated Estoril 2:1.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos (Borussia Dortmund/German Bundesliga): Remained on the pitch for the full 90 minutes in Borussia Dortmund’s emphatic 4:0 thrashing of Bayer Leverkusen.
Panagiotis Retsos (Bayer Leverkusen/German Bundesliga): Also played the entirety of the same game, unable to prevent Leverkusen from losing 0:4.
Tasos Donis (Stuttgart/German Bundesliga): Used as a substitute after 67 minutes of the 2:0 home victory against Werder Bremen.
Kyriakos Papadopoulos (Hamburg/German Bundesliga): The experienced Greek defender stayed on the pitch for 90 minutes in the 1:0 triumph over Freiburg.
Jose Holebas (Watford/English Premier League): Stayed on the pitch for the whole game against Crystal Palace. The match ended 0:0.
Orestis Karnezis (Watford/English Premier League): Kept goal for Watford in the match with Crystal Palace, not conceded a single goal.
Konstantinos Mavropanos (Arsenal/English Premier League): Didn’t play any part in Arsenal’s 4:1 home win over West Ham in London.
Kostas Stafylidis (Stoke City/English Premier League): On the sidelines with a reported chest injury. Stoke drew 1:1 with Burnley.

Apostolos Vellios (Nottingham Forest/English Championship): Came off the bench after 81 minutes of the narrow 1:2 loss to Cardiff on the road.
Kostas Manolas (AS Roma/Serie A): Remained on the pitch for the full 90 minutes in Roma’s confident 3:0 beating of Spal.
Vassilis Torosidis (Bologna/Serie A): Couldn’t play in the 0:0 draw with Cagliari because of a thigh injury.
Charalampos Lykogiannis (Cagliari/Serie A): Began the same match on the bench, later entering the action after 81 minutes of play.
Georgios Tzavellas (Alanyaspor/Turkish Superlig): Unfortunately, the Greek scored an own goal in the 2:3 setback against Galatasaray at home. Played the whole match.
