After a goalless first half, two quick goals in a four-minute spell in the second-half from Vierinha and Maurico put PAOK in firm control at 2-0, with a Konstantinos Triantafyllopoulos own goal in the first minute of added time adding some gloss to the scoreline.

It’s a result which re-establishes PAOK’s eight-point cushion ahead of second-placed title rivals Olympiacos, while Asteras remain unmoved in 10th.

Under recently-installed coach Georgios Paraschos Asteras had gone five games without defeat before this match, and PAOK had goalkeeper Alexandros Paschalakis to thank for some fine saves in the first half as the in-form hosts threatened on more than one occasion.

The PAOK custoadian’s best moment came after 39 minutes when he made an astonishing triple-save from Asteras duo Nikos Kaltsas and José Luis Valiente.

The visitors managed to weather a mini-storm in the first half, and when it was their turn to apply some pressure mid-way through the second half, the deadlock was finally broken.

It came from a dead ball in the 65th minute with PAOK skipper Vierinha making no mistake when given the chance from the edge of the box.

That goal seemed to shell-shock the home side and PAOK continued to press forward with another goal coming just four minutes later in the 69th minute to break the back of the match for PAOK.

Dutch midfielder Diego Biseswar played in Mauricio with an excellent pass, and the Brazilian midfielder clipped a clinical effort home to double his team’s advantage.

There was little fight left in Asteras after that setback, and it was 3-0 in the first minute of added time when Triantafyllopoulos turned the ball past his own goalkeeper Nikos Papadopoulos accidentally.
