Jimenez Will Remain at AEK Next Season
A few days before the start of the Supeleague playoffs, AEK sealed a deal with coach Manolo Jimenez to activate the one-year renewal clause in the Spaniard’s contract. Jimenez met with the club’s president Dimitris Melissanidis and the agreement between the two sides was officially announced late last night.
The head officials at AEK have been pleased with coach Manolo Jimenez since his takeover in January and his contributions to the team’s transformation have been evident. Jimenez took over the club as they sat in seventh place of the Superleague table and he guided the Kitrinomavri in the second half of the season to a fourth place finish and a spot in the Superleague playoffs.
His success does not end there, as AEK progressed to the Greek Cup Final, losing to PAOK over a controversial offside goal late in the game.
It is the also the Spaniard’s will to remain at the club as the working conditions are much more favorable than during his disappointing first spell with the Enosis in 2010/11.
AEK’s efforts to renew Jimenez’s contract also clears any uncertainty for the head coach position before the playoffs kick off on Sunday, keeping the team's focus strictly on matters on the pitch.
