Just Like 1949…
Similar to 1949 when Greece’s Big-4 all qualified for the Greek Cup semifinals, Olympiacos/AEK and Panathinaikos/PAOK were paired together in today’s Greek Cup semifinal draw.
Olympiacos/AEK and Panathinaikos/PAOK will fight for a place in this year’s Greek Cup final, after the semi-final draw took place earlier today. The draw results produced the same matchups as the 1949 semifinals, which was the last time Greece’s Big-4 all qualified for the semifinals of the competition, That season AEK and Panathinaikos advanced to the final with the Kitrinomavri defeating the Prasini in the championship game.
Olympiacos will host AEK in the first leg, which is a rematch of last year’s Cup Final, while Panathinaikos will play host to PAOK in their first of two legs.
The first leg matchups will take place on April 12 and 13th with the return legs scheduled for April 26/17. The final will be held on May 6th with the OAKA Stadium likely to be the venue. However, if AEK qualifies past Olympiacos, the stadium could be changed to the AEL FC Arena, Pankritio, or Kaftanzoglio.
