This has been Koulouris’ true breakout year. Playing on loan at Atromitos from PAOK, the 23-year-old has netted an impressive 24 goals in 33 games across all competitions, firing the Peristeri outfit to fourth position of the Super League. Koulouris has also regularly been summoned to the senior Greek national team by head coach Angelos Anastasiadis.

Koulouris is currently the 2018/2019 Super League top scorer with a huge 18 goals in 26 appearances. Atromitos have clinched fourth spot and will participate in the 2019/2020 UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds.

Incredibly, with 24 goals this season, Koulouris has become the highest scoring Greek player representing a Hellenic club in 17 years! The last Greek footballer to score at least 24 goals in one single season was Demis Nikolaidis in the 2001/2002 campaign. During that particular season, Nikolaidis netted 28 goals for AEK FC across the league, Greek Cup and European competitions, and that was the seventh campaign in which the UEFA Euro 2004 champion scored over 21 markers.

Since then, Stefanos Athanasiadis reached 23 goals with PAOK in the 2012/2013 season, Kostas Fortounis tallied 21 in the 2015/2016 campaign and Nikos Lymberopoulos also scored 21 times in 2006/2007.

Top scorers among Greek players representing Hellenic clubs in the last 18 seasons:

2018/2019: Efthymis Koulouris (24)

2017/2018: Michalis Manias (12)

2003/2004: Dimitris Papadopoulos (20)

2002/2003: Nikos Lymperopoulos (19)

2001/2002: Demis Nikolaidis (28)

In the current season, Koulouris has bagged 18 goals in the Super League, five in the Greek Cup and one in the ultimately unsuccessful Europa League qualifying tie against Dynamo Brest last summer. Many of Koulouris’ goals have been vital for Atromitos, and thanks to his killer instincts, Damir Canadi’s side has once again punched above its weight to claim a place in the top four.

Now, attention shifts to Koulouris’ future. In the summer, the forward is scheduled to return to parent club PAOK, however the Dikefalos tou Vorra already have Karol Swiderski and Chuba Akpom as their main striking pair. Reports have suggested that Anderlecht (Belgium) and Ajax (Netherlands) are considering making a bid for Koulouris.
