Aris were stunned as Kymis strolled to their third straight win of the season, while Panionios took advantage of a free-falling Trikala side to earn their first win of the season.
Despite starting the season with six consecutive losses, Kymis extended their winning streak to three straight games on Saturday night as they handed Aris a humbling 94-69 defeat. Thaddus McFadden led Kymis with 29 points on the night as the promoted side turned the tables on an Aris side that had the lead after the first quarter. Giannis Athinaiou was Aris’ most potent scorer as the Greek international notched 19 points, but he couldn’t deliver Aris a win as the Thessaloniki outfit were outscored 80-48 in the final three quarters.
Kymis’ recent surge in the Greek Basket League meant that Panionios was the last remaining team to be without a win in the league; however, that all changed on Saturday night as the Panthers edged Trikala 82-76. Slaven Cupkovic led Panionios with 17 points as the Nea Smyrni outfit ended a streak of eight straight losses, while Lamon Murray Jr. led Trikala in every scoring category with 21 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists but wasn’t able to guide the Sakafliades to their first win since October.
In Larissa, Gymnastikos ended a three-match losing skid with a narrow 82-78 win over visiting Koroivos. Kevin Ware notched a double-double on the night with 24 points and 10 rebounds as the Thessalian side leapfrogged their guests for the final play-off spot in the league standings. Marcus Posley was the protagonist for Koroivos with the American guard notching 24 points, but not enough to end his side’s five-game losing streak.
