Lamia secured their place in the SuperLeague next season with just one match to spare on Sunday as a 2-1 home win over PAS Giannina ensured that they will finish above 15th-placed Kerkyra, who were relegated.
It has been a season of struggle for Babis Tennes’ team, but the Phtiotis region outfit managed to keep hold of their top flight status thanks to goals from Spanish forward Piti (44) and Suleiman Omo (61).
Bruno Chalkiadakis grabbed a consolation strike for the visitors in the 77th minute, but there was no danger of the home side letting their precious lead slip.
Elsewhere, fourth-placed Atromitos, who are guaranteed to end the season in that position, ran out 1-0 winners at Levadiakos thanks to a late Felipe Bruno goal three minutes from full-time, while Panionios returned to winning ways with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory at bottom club Platanias.
The Panthers, who are seventh, fell behind to Chigoze Udoji’s 60th-minute strike, but a late surge saw the visitors turn the match on its head courtesy of a double from Srdan Spiridonovic, who scored after 75 and 88 minutes.
