Late Chatzis winner moves Apollon Larissa into second
GREEK FOOTBALL LEAGUE - MATCHDAY 16
|Kerkyra||1 - 2||Apollon Larissas|
A spectacular 90th minute goal from Konstantinos Chatzis saw Apollon Larissa defeat Kerkyra 1:2 to move into second place in the Football League standings.
Second placed Kerkyra hosted third placed Apollon Larissa in the Football League’s matchday 16 highlight fixture. The visitors, who were coming off of four consecutive draws, struck first after Poleto assisted to Goudroubis as he opened the scoring in the 11th minute of play. After the goal, Kerkyra began to control the pace of the game, however their best chance of the half was wasted in the 43rd minute and Apollon Larissa took a slender lead into the break.
Things got worse for the hosts when Spinoulas was shown a second yellow card in the 68th minute and was sent off. Despite the man disadvantage, Kerkyra pulled level ten minutes later when Ioannou headed home a rebounded effort in front of an open net, after Toure’s strike was denied by the woodwork. The final say, however, fell to the visitors who managed to sneak out the three points thanks to a late goal from Konstantinos Chatzis, who with a brilliant, acrobatic effort netted home the 90th minute winner.
The result sees Apollon Larissa move into second place with 31 points, ahead of now third placed Kerkyra, who have 29 points.
