Leaders Volos NFC dropped points for a third straight match after falling on the road to Ergotelis 2:0 on Wednesday. The Thessaly side, who had a comfortable lead atop the Football League standings and were clear favorites to gain automatic promotion to the Super League, now see their lead in first place cut to five points. On the other hand, the Cretans moved into seventh place with 31 points after Rovithis (53) and Efford (63) found the back of the net in the second half to give their side an important victory.

Second placed Apollon Larissas dispatched a struggling Iraklis side 1:0 with Brambilla’s 72nd minute goal separating the sides at the final whistle. Apollon Larissas can now hope for automatic promotion, as they only sit five points behind leaders Volos NFC, while Iraklis dropped to tenth with 24 points.

Third placed Panachaiki defeated Aittitos Spaton 2:1 and remained within four points of second placed Apollon Larissas. The Patra side opened the scoring late in the first half through Coll and added an insurance goal shortly after the halftime break through Bastakos (51). A late own goal from Dasios was too little to late for the visitors, who continue to languish in the relegation zone in 13th place on 21 points.

Kerkyra kept their hopes for promotion alive after an important 0:1 road win in Drama against the local side. Kontos was the hero for the visitors, who notched in a late goal three minute from the end to keep Kerkyra in fourth place on 34 points, one point behind third placed Panachaiki and five points behind second placed Apollon Larissas. Doxa Dramas are down in eleventh with 24 points and will need to pick up some points in their upcoming matches to stay away from the drop zone.

In other action, Apollon Pontou defeated 10-man Irodotos 3:0 while relegation bound Sparti and Aiginiakos tasted defeats yet again falling to Trikala (1:0) and AE Karaiskakis (1:2).
