Leganes defender Siovas hits the target in final La Liga fixture
Greek defender Dimitris Siovas scored his first goal of the La Liga season on Saturday afternoon, helping Leganes defeat Real Betis 3:2 in the final league match.
29-year old centre-back Siovas has enjoyed his second season in Spanish football, becoming an integral part of the Leganes team. Siovas, who joined from Olympiacos in January 2017, regularly plays the full 90 minutes for the La Liga outfit, but he isn’t known for his scoring abilities. Nevertheless, on the last match-day of the season, the Greek defender popped up to level the score against Real Betis at home.
Following a looping corner kick, Ezequiel Munoz headed the ball towards the six-yard box, where Siovas cleverly controlled possession and slotted beyond stranded goalkeeper Pedro Lopez to make it 1:1 after 28 minutes. Siovas remained on the pitch for the entire game as Leganes eventually claimed an exciting 3:2 victory.
Overall, Siovas participated in 24 La Liga matches during the season, scoring the one goal. Leganes finished in 17th position with 43 points.
Siovas also registered the one marker in the Spanish Cup semi-final against Sevilla earlier in the year.
