Levadiakos dreaming of Europe after Asteras win
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 27
|Levadiakos||1 - 0||Asteras Tripolis|
Levadiakos put themselves into the race for the European places on Saturday by defeating Asteras Tripolis 1-0 in a match which the away side dominated for long spells at the Levadeia Municipal Stadium, while strugglers Lamia and Apollon Smyrnis played out a 0-0 draw.
Jose Anigo’s men rode their luck in a first-half which Asteras contrived to miss a hatful of chances to score and staging a smash and grab by scoring with their first real chance in the 66th minute through Burkina Faso midfielder Souleymane Sawadogo.
Asteras, who currently occupy fifth spot with 36 points, are now just two points ahead of Levadiakos who are seventh. Xanthi are sixth, level on 36 points with Asteras.
Asteras coach Savvas Pantelidis will be bitterly disappointed after seeing his team dominate in the first half with Martin Tomso in particular guilty of missing several good chances to score for the Arcadians.
|Lamia||0 - 0||Apollon Smyrnis|
Elsewhere, the relegation dogfight continues to gather pace with Lamia sharing the spoils of a goalless draw with fellow strugglers Apollon Smyrnis, who finished the game with 10 players after Tasos Papazoglou was dismissed for a second booking in the last minute.
The result does neither side any favors, although they both remain five points above the relegation zone with three games to go.
