Lionel Messi: First European goal versus Panathinaikos...100th versus Olympiacos
Lionel Messi scored his first European goal against Panathinaikos back in 2005 and twelve years later, the Barcelona star scored his 100th career European goal on Wednesday against Olympiacos.
The eternal enemies of Greece, Panathinaikos and Olympiacos, are witnesses of two historic accomplishments of arguably the best player to ever play the game of football, Lionel Messi. The Barcelona man netted his 100th career European goal on Wednesday in Barcelona’s 3-1 win over Olympiacos in the UEFA CHampions League. Messi gave Barcelona a 2-0 lead in the 61st minute with a spectacular free-kick that curled up and over the wall to find the back of the net.
Ironically, Lionel Messi scored his first ever European goal 12 years ago against Olympiacos’ big rivals, Panathinaikos, on November 4th, 2007. Then, the 18-year old Messi helped Barcelona to a 5-0 win over the Prasini, scoring his side’s third goal of the night.
Messi has scored 97 career goals in the UEFA Champions League and three goals in the UEFA Super Cup, reaching an astonishing 100 European goals in 122 matches.
