Mantalos named best Greek footballer in PSAP Super League awards

On Monday evening, the Panhellenic Professional Football Players Association (PSAP) handed out their awards for the 2016/2017 Super League season. The event took place in Athens, with the leading lights of Greek football being recognised for their achievements in the previous campaign.

Among the big winners were AEK Athens, who saw star midfielder and captain Petros Mantalos named the best Greek footballer in the Super League. Mantalos later picked up another award, this time for fair play. Unsurprisingly, ex-Panathinaikos forward Marcus Berg took the title of best foreign player, but he was absent in Athens due to commitments with current club Al Ain. The trophy for best coach went to Vladimir Ivic, a Serbian who left PAOK following the completion of the 2016/2017 season.

All 2016/2017 PSAP Super League awards:

Best Greek footballer: Petros Mantalos (AEK)

Best foreigner: Marcus Berg (Panathinaikos)

Best young player: Panagiotis Retsos (Olympiacos)

Best goalkeeper: Andreas Gianniotis (Panionios)

Best coach: Vladimir Ivic (PAOK)

Best referee: Tasos Papapetrou Anastasios

Top scorer: Marcus Berg (22 goals, Panathinaikos)

Fair-play award: Petros Mantalos (AEK), Leo Matos (PAOK)

Best Greek playing in foreign league: Sokratis Papastathopoulos (Borussia Dortmund)

2016/2017 Super League All-Star Team:

Goalkeeper: Andreas Gianniotas

Right back: Leo Matos

Left back: Leonardo Koutris

Centre back: Rodrigo Moledo

Centre back: Panagiotis Retsos

Midfield: Manolis Siopis

Midfield: Zeca

Midfield: Petros Mantalos

Midfield: Shojaei Masoud

Midfield: Konstantinos Fortounis

Forward: Marcus Berg

Also, the PSAP revealed which players were the most impressive during the 2016/2017 Football League season, Greeceโ€™s second footballing tier. Promoted Apollon Smyrnis earned two of the seven trophies on offer, as Apostolos Mantzios was handed the prize of best coach and midfielder Emmanuel Kone won the award for best foreigner.

Top scorer: Nikos Kouskounas (20 goals, Trikala)

Best goalkeeper: Sokratis Dioudis (Aris)

Best young player: Triantafyllos Pasalidis (Aiginiakos)

Best Greek player: Andreas Vasilogiannis (Lamia)
