Mantzaris and Kostas Antetokounmpo leave Ethniki set-up
Vangelis Mantzaris and Kostas Antetokounmpo have both been cut from the roster for the upcoming 2019 FIBA World Cup.
On Thursday, the Hellenic Basketball Federation released this following statement:
“The senior men’s national team will continue preparing for the World Cup in China (31/8-15/9) without Vangelis Mantzaris and Kostas Antetokounmpo. At the end of today’s training session (15/8), Thanasis Skourtopoulos thanked the pair for their efforts with the national team.”
Christos Saloustros had also been cut from the squad on Sunday.
These following 14 players are continuing to train with the Greek national team for the World Cup:
Nick Calathes, Kostas Sloukas, Giannis Athinaiou, Giannoulis Larentzakis, Antonis Koniaris, Kostas Papanikolaou, Panagiotis Vasilopoulos, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, Ioannis Papapetrou, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Giorgos Printezis, Konstantinos Mitoglou, Giannis Bourousis, Giorgos Papagiannis.
The 12-man squad will be finalised after the Acropolis Tournament in Athens.
The 2019 FIBA World Cup will take place between August 31 and September 15. Greece are placed in Group F alongside Brazil, Montenegro and New Zealand.
