Marcus Berg...Europe’s Highest Scorer in 2017
Marcus Berg scored twice against AEK on Sunday, scoring his 15th league goal in 2017.
There is no doubt that Marcus Berg is the most in-form player in the Greek Superleague. Berg led Panathinaikos to their second consecutive derby win, scoring two goals against AEK on Sunday, after netting the winner over Olympiacos a couple of weeks ago.
Berg has now scored 20 goals in this year’s Superleague and 27 in all competitions, a career-high for the Sweden international. His previous season high was in 2008-2009 with Groningen where he scored 26 goals.
Marcus Berg really caught fire in 2017 where he has now scored 15 league goals since the start of the new year. He is currently Europe’s HIGHEST scorer in domestic league play along with Sporting Lisbon’s Bas Dost, who has also scored 15 goals but having played three less games (11 compared to Berg’s 14).
Behind Berg are big names like Lionel Messi of Barcelona (13 league goals) and Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski with 12 league goals.
