Markopoulos appointed new Aris BC coach
Aris BC have confirmed that Soulis Markopoulos will be their new head coach for the upcoming 2019/2020 season.
On Friday, Aris had released this following statement:
“Today (09/08), Soulis Markopoulos signed a one-year agreement with Aris BC, after holding a meeting with club president and managing director Charis Papageorgiou.”
Pantelis Boutskos and Vangelis Spyridis will be his assistants.
In the 2018/2019 campaign, Aris didn’t perform particularly well, failing to qualify for the Basket League playoffs. Aris will be hoping that Markopoulos, 70, can improve the club’s fortunes and at least qualify for the post-season.
This is the third time when Markopoulos has received the role of Aris manager after coaching the team in two seperate spells between 1994 and 1999.
Markopoulos has twice been named the Best Coach of the Greek League in 2008 with Marousi and in 2014 with PAOK. In the past, the experienced Greek has also coached the likes of AEK, Iraklis and Makedonikos, and he managed PAOK from 2009 to 2017.
