Masouras to make maiden Ethniki appearance against Estonia
Greek national team head coach Angelos Anastasiadis has named his line-up to play Estonia in the final UEFA Nations League match, gifting Panionios midfielder Giorgos Masouras his debut in midfield.
After Odysseas Vlachodimos played against Finland on Thursday, many expected PAOK goalkeeper Alexandros Paschalakis to make his debut in this match, however Anastasiadis went with AEK star Vasilis Barkas to guard the Greek net. Vasilis Lampropoulos replaces the injured Kostas Manolas in the centre of defence, while Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Michalis Bakakis and Dimitris Giannoulis occupy the remaining defensive positions.
In the midfield, struggling Benfica representative Andreas Samaris will protect the back line next to Carlos Zeca, with Masouras, Andreas Bouchalakis and Anastasios Bakasetas supporting lone striker Nikos Karelis. Konstantinos Mitroglou is nursing a knock and cannot participate.
The Ethniki Omada require a point to secure second spot in Group 2, League C. Finland have already sealed first position and Estonia are relegated.
Greece starting XI: Barkas (GK), Bakakis (RB), Papastathopoulos (CB), Lampropoulos (CB), Giannoulis (LB), Samaris (DM), Zeca (DM), Masouras (CM), Bouchalakis (CM), Bakasetas (AMF), Karelis (FW).
In Tallinn, the Greeks defeated Estonia 1:0 with Konstantinos Fortounis striking the only goal in the first UEFA Nations League match. Barkas tallied a clean sheet in that particular game.
