Mitroglou close to Galatasaray move
According to reports, striker Konstantinos Mitroglou is edging towards his departure from Marseille, with the media suggesting the Greek is close to joining Galatasaray.
This season, Mitroglou has struggled in Ligue 1 with Marseille, reportedly falling out with head coach Rudi Garcia and failing to impress when given a chance on the pitch. In 13 league appearances, the 30-year-old has managed to score three goals, however he is now supposedly on the verge on joining Galatasaray on a loan which would last for 18 months until the summer of 2020.
The reports emerged in the Turkish media on Wednesday as Galatasaray have seemingly come to an agreement with Marseille in order to acquire Mitroglou’s services. However, while the loan would run for 1.5 years, the deal doesn’t come with a purchase option. The forward’s value is rated at 10 million euros by Transfermarkt.
At the moment, Galatasaray sit in second place of the Turkish Super Lig, trailing leaders Istanbul Basaksehir by six points. Galatasaray will take on Benfica in the UEFA Europa League Last 32, but despite having already played for Marseille in the tournament, Mitroglou would be eligible to represent the Turkish giants in the competition due to new UEFA regulations.
Mitroglou has been on the books of Marseille since August 2017. In the past, the Greek international has played for Fulham, Olympiacos, Atromitos, Panionios and Borussia Monchengladbach.
