Mitroglou scores impressive hat trick in large Marseille victory

Greek striker Kostas Mitroglou continued his promising streak of form, scoring an impressive hat trick in Marseille’s thumping 9:0 victory in the French Cup Last 16 against Bourg Peronnas.

Watch AEK and Olympiacos battle it out for a place in the Greek Cup semi-finals during the return leg at the OAKA stadium.

The 29-year old has been enduring a frustrating debut campaign with Marseille, but after scoring in the 6:3 victory over Metz at the weekend, Mitroglou seems to have found new confidence. With the score already at 3:0 in Marseille’s favour against Bourg Peronnas, the Greek rose highest to plant a neat header into the net. Mitroglou doubled his tally five minutes before half time, scoring when 1 on 1 following a poor defensive error from the opponents. He also provided an assist for Marseille’s third goal earlier in the game.

In the mood for more, Mitroglou sealed his first hat trick in France during the latter stages. A floating cross found Mitroglou inside the penalty area, who nodded the ball beyond the goalkeeper to grab his third goal. Interestingly, Lucas Ocampos also netted three markers in the same Marseille match, as the team claimed a huge 9:0 victory to qualify for the next stage of the French Cup.

With four goals in two matches, Mitroglou will be hoping that he can push to earn a spot in Marseille’s starting eleven for Ligue 1 matches.
