Let’s take a closer look at who remained loyal to the Kitrinomavri through a difficult 24-year period:
Current owner of AEK, the 67-year old businessman was the club’s major shareholder in 1994, but he wasn’t the outright president because of his partnership with Giannis Karras. Melissanidis helped save AEK when the Enosis were relegated to the Gamma Ethniki, ploughing his money into making the club successful again and constructing a new stadium in the Nea Filadelfeia region.
At this moment in time, AEK’s Yugoslav legend Bajevic works as an executive director for the club. When manager of the Kitrinomavri, Bajevic enjoyed huge success, winning the 1992, 1993 and 1994 Greek titles and etching his name into the Athenians’ history books.
Due to her father Michalis Arkadis being a former AEK president, Arkadi was immediately born into the AEK family and was often referred to as Bajevic’s right hand when head of the press office in 1994. Nowadays, she works higher up in the Kitrinomavri’s ranks, owning the title of AEK’s deputy general manager for communication and public relations.
Signing for AEK in 1991, Dimitriadis became the club’s top goalscorer for two consecutive seasons, albeit not in the 1994 campaign. After hanging up his playing boots, he continued working in the AEK system, now the manager of the football operation department.
Kapasis was a key player for AEK in the 1990’s, offering real threat on the left wing with his trickery. He is now responsible for studying how AEK’s opponents play in order to help the team prepare for upcoming games.
Already 68 years of age, Nikolau spent his entire senior footballing career with AEK, representing the club between 1966 and 1981 as a centre-back. In 1994, Nikolaou won the Greek championship in the same position which he holds to this day - head doctor.
Koromilas has been a member of AEK since the early 1990’s, making him an integral part of the club’s journey from winning the title in 1994, suffering relegation to the Gamma Ethniki in 2013 and then returning to the top of the Greek pile five years later. Works in the technical staff which deals with the overall care of the team.
AEK’s starting goaltender in the 1994 season, Almatsidis is now the goalkeeping coach for the Kitrinomavri’s U20 team. Nevertheless, he will celebrate the Super League triumph with just as much joy as the first team coaches.
Ex-defender Vlachos picked up plenty of awards when a footballer, winning a combined six major trophies in Greece with AEK and Olympiacos. He is the head coach of AEK’s under 16 team.
