OFFICIAL: Ferreira new PAOK boss
PAOK have confirmed that Portuguese manager, Abel Ferreira, has become their new head coach by signing a three-year contract.
On Monday evening, PAOK released this following statement:
“PAOK FC announces its agreement with Braga for the signing of Abel Ferreira. The Portuguese coach has agreed to sign a three-year contract and will travel to the Netherlands, where PAOK is currently training.”
Reports stated that PAOK paid Braga two million euros in order to sign Ferreira. The 40-year-old replaces Razvan Lucescu as the PAOK head coach.
Last season, Lucescu steered PAOK to an historic Greek double, but the Romanian suddenly left the Dikefalos tou Vorra on Friday to join Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. PAOK moved swiftly to hire Ferreira as his replacement.
Since Ferreira ended his playing career in 2011, he has coached in the youth systems of Sporting Lisbon and Braga, becoming the head coach of the latter’s first team in 2017. Overall, the Portuguese manager oversaw 102 matches with SC Braga, gaining a points-per-game average of 1.96.
PAOK are currently training in the Netherlands as they prepare for the upcoming UEFA Champions League qualifiers in August. The Greek champions enter the competition in the third qualifying round, aiming to make the group stage for the first time in history.
