OFFICIAL: Greece to host Croatia at the Karaiskaki Stadium
Greece will host Croatia at the Karaiskakis stadium in the return leg of the European playoffs for a place in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Finals.
The Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) made it known to FIFA that Greece will host Croatia at the Karaiskakis stadium in the second leg of the European Playoffs. Although there were rumors of Greece moving to the OAKA stadium for the all-important qualifier, EPO decided to keep the Olympiacos stadium as the Ethniki’s homeground, which was the wish of the players and coaching staff.
The ticket for the 2018 World Cup Final between Greece and Croatia will be decided on November 12th at 2:45 PM EST (9:45 local Greek time) where hopefully Greece will celebrate (in front of the home fans)) their third consecutive World Cup appearance. The first match will be played in Croatia at the Maksimir stadium in Zagreb on November 9th at at 2:45 PM EST (9:45 local Greek time).
The two matches between Greece and Croatia will likely be held without away fans, due to the fear of fan violence and incidents between the two supporters. FIFA will make their final decision regarding this matter in the coming day.
After the conclusion of the playoffs, the National Team could very well change grounds for the new UEFA Nations League and the UEFA EURO 2020 qualifiers. Likely destinations include the Toumba and Kaftanzoglio stadiums in Thessaloniki.
