OFFICIAL: Olympiacos sign Argentinian forward Soldano
As expected, Olympiacos have confirmed the signing of Argentinian forward Franco Soldano from Union de Santa Fe, with the player penning a reported 4.5 year deal with the Piraeus club.
Since the summer, the Erythrolefkoi have expressed interest in 24-year old striker Soldano, and given the team’s struggles in front of goal in the current season, the management decided to make a move for the Argentinian player now. After rumours suggested Olympiacos had struck a deal with Union de Santa Fe, Soldano was pictured arriving at Athens International Airport on Wednesday afternoon:
Later in the evening, after Soldano had completed a medical, Olympiacos confirmed the signing with this following statement on their social networking platforms:
“Franco Soldano welcome to Olympiacos!”
Details of the agreement have not been revealed by Olympiacos, but according to various sources in the media, the Thrylos paid Union de Santa Fe an initial 750,000 euros for Soldano’s services, but that could rise by 400,000 in bonuses. Union de Santa Fe also maintain a supposed 15% resale rate.
Soldano signed a 4.5 year contract with Olympiacos and will earn around 400,000 euros per calendar year in Piraeus.
In the 2018/2019 Primera Division in Argentina, Soldano has competed in 14 matches, scoring two goals. The Greek media previously suggested that either Ahmed Hassan or Dimitris Manos could leave Olympiacos in the event that Soldano is signed.
Soldano shared his emotions from the transfer in an interview given to Olympiacos: “I want to help the team as much as I can. We need to achieve big things in both the domestic championship and in Europe. Asides from our team targets, my aim is to score goals to fulfil the expectations which people have of me. I am a dedicated player.”
BA TO JOIN IN JULY
In other news, Senegalese defender Ousseynou Ba has signed a four-year contract with Olympiacos, however he will link up with his new club in July.
At the moment, the 23-year old is on the books of Gazelec Ajaccio in Ligue 2, but pictures were released on Wednesday of Ba signing an agreement with Olympiacos at the organisation’s offices. Reports later confirmed that Ba will join the Erythrolefkoi after the 2018/2019 season has reached its completion.
Standing at 192 cm tall, Ba is a commanding figure in the centre of defence, and he’s scored one goal in 14 Ligue 2 matches this season. Ba’s upcoming move to Olympiacos has drawn comparisons to fellow Senegalese centre-back Pape Abou Cisse.
FELIPE PARDO LEAVES
Experienced Colombian winger Felipe Pardo has not been in the plans of head coach Pedro Martins at Olympiacos, and on Wednesday, Mexican club Deportivo Toluca released a statement on which revealed the arrival of the 28-year old.
Overall, Pardo spent over three years in Greece with Olympiacos, winning two Super League titles in 2016 and 2017. Pardo fell out of favour with the Olympiacos coaching staff in the summer and was mainly kept on the sidelines in the first half of the season, only playing in one league game and two Greek Cup matches.
