Hosting Niki Volou in Heraklion, OFI were heavy favourites to beat the Gamma Ethniki club, and they duly obliged with a confident 3:0 triumph. The hero was former AEK Athens forward Christos Aravidis, who stole the headlines with an impressive hat trick at the Theodoros Vardinogiannis Stadium.

OFI made the breakthrough within three minutes as Aravidis neatly converted a penalty after Thanasis Dinos was chopped down inside the area, before the experienced 31-year old doubled his tally when cleverly heading a corner beyond the visiting goalkeeper. Firmly in control of proceedings, OFI put the gloss on their confident 3:0 victory in the dying moments, with Aravidis sending another spot kick into the net for his hat trick.

In two Greek Cup matches, OFI boast four points and lead the way in Group 7. Niki Volou are yet to register a point.

AEL PUT IRODOTOS TO THE SWORD

In Larissa, AEL made short work of Irodotos at the AEL FC Arena, claiming a comfortable 4:1 victory which eases the growing pressure on head coach Gianluca Festa’s shoulders.

Having started on the front foot, the home team quickly made their advantage count after 21 minutes with Slovenian forward Marko Nunic tapping a cross into the left corner. Irodotos kept the game competitive until the early stages of the second half, but after Kenan Bargan made it 2:0 when clean through, they fell apart with Bargan and Nunic netting further goals for AEL. Ailton Machado scored a penalty for Irodotos on 80 minutes, but it made little difference to the outcome.

AEL have three points in two matches after losing 0:2 to Panionios on matchday one. Irodotos are point-less.

LEVADIAKOS BACK TO WINNING WAYS

In the Super League, Levadiakos are enduring a poor run of form, but they picked up an important 4:0 win against Aris Avato in the Greek Cup to boost morale.

Gamma Ethniki underdogs Aris Avato kept the match tight in the early stages, but after 21 minutes, Marko Stanojevic’s weak header slipped through the goalkeeper’s fingers. To their credit, Avato initially refused to let Levadiakos run away with the game, but their Super League opponents scored three goals in the final 13 minutes. Fotis Ioannidis, Panagiotis Liagas and Pavlos Mitropoulos all found the net to complete an emphatic 4:0 Levadiakos victory.

Levadiakos have three points from two matches and temporarily share top spot in Group 5 with Olympiacos. Aris Avato are bottom with nothing to show for their efforts.

LAMIA SLIP UP AT HOME

In the day’s final fixture, PAS Lamia 1964 surprisingly dropped points in Group 2 against Volos NFC, drawing 1:1 at home.

On 14 minutes, Anastasios Karamanos escaped the attentions of the Volos defence to slot a low attempt under the onrushing goalkeeper, but the away side weren’t prepared to wave the white flag. With half-time approaching, an unmarked Albert Roussos was allowed to connect with a searching free kick, heading the ball in to grab a precious point for Volos NFC.

Lamia lost to AEK on matchday one and only have one point in two Greek Cup matches. On the other hand, Volos NFC now have four and currently occupy first place in the group.
