After losing their previous meeting with the Italians 7-6 in Italy back in October, Olympiacos were hungry for revenge in Greece. The Erythrolefki got off to a decent start, finding themselves ahead 2-1 after the first period. They would then go up 4-1 in the second period, but the Italians would fight back to level the score at 4-4 going into halftime.
Olympiacos were able to score two unanswered goals in the third period to go up 6-4. A run of seven unanswered goals saw them go up 11-4 in the fourth period, and a late goal from the visitors saw the final score become 11-5 in favor of the Greeks.
Ioannis Fountoulis led Olympiacos offensively with four goals. Alexandros Gounas also scored two goals for the hosts.
As this was the last round of play in the group stage, Olympiacos has now finished in second place (out of eight teams) in Group B with 30 points in 14 matches. They will now be looking to defend their Champions League title, as they will head to Hannover, Germany for the Final-8. They will play their quarterfinal match on June 6 against Italy’s AN Brescia.
