Olympiacos defeated PAOK in five sets in the Game 1 of the Volley League Finals.
The Erythrolefki comfortably took the first set 25-15, but then the visitors from Thessaloniki responded by taking the second set 17-25. Olympiacos then won a closely contested third set by a score of 25-22.
In the fourth set, PAOK took a 13-18 lead, but not before Olympiacos would come back to level it at 20-20. Ultimately, PAOK would hold on to take the fourth set 22-25. In the decisive fifth set, Olympiacos would dominate, winning it 15-6 to give themselves a 1-0 lead overall in the best-of-five series.
Both teams will now head to Thessaloniki for Game 2, which will take place on Sunday. Game 3 is set to take place on May 9 in Piraeus. If necessary, Game 4 would be on May 12 in Thessaloniki, and Game 5 on May 15 in Piraeus. PAOK are looking for their fourth consecutive league title and fourth overall, while Olympiacos are looking for their 28th overall, and first since 2014, as well as revenge from last year’s final where they lost to PAOK in a five game series.
