Olympiacos in Hannover to defend European crown
Olympiacos’ water polo team is in Hannover where they will look to defend their European crown at the LEN Champions League Final-8.
After winning the League/Cup double in Greece, Olympiacos will now look to complete the treble by winning the LEN Champions League. The Reds, who finished second in Group B, qualified for their seventh Final-8 in club history, which will take place in Hannover from June 6-8. The quarter-finals are set for June 6, the semi-finals for June 7, and the final for Saturday, June 8.
In the quarter-finals, Olympiacos will match up against Italy’s Brescia, who claimed third place in Group A. The winner of the quarter-final tie will march on to the semi-finals to play the winner of Pro Recco (ITA) and Hannover (GER). The Group A winners, Pro Recco, are the clear favorites to advance to the Final-4.
Olympiacos have qualified for seven LEN Champions League Finals (Final-4, Final-6, Final-8), having finished runner-ups on two occasions (2001, 2016). Olympiacos defeated Pro Recco in last year’s final to win their second LEN Champions League title in club history. Their first European triumph came back in 2002.
